The Disc Golf World Championships has began today after a long wait. The tournament kicked off this morning with the FPO division. Pool C, made up of the top-rated FPO players, played their opening round on Wednesday in Nokia.
The home crowd pressure didn’t seem to affect the Finnish throwers: three Finnish players are in the top five after the first round. Henna Blomroos (-6) had an excellent opening round and heads into day two as the tournament leader.
The race behind Blomroos is incredibly tight. Four players are tied for second place at this point. Kat Mertsch, Rachel Turton, Silva Saarinen, and Iida Lehtomäki all finished the round at -4.
Defending World Champion Eveliina Salonen (+3) and current Disc Golf Pro Tour points leader Holyn Handley (+3) both find themselves nearly ten strokes off the lead. However, with four rounds still to play, much can still happen and everything remains possible.
All round one results are available on the PDGA Live platform.
