Only 15 years old, Iida Lehtomäki is leading the Disc Golf World Championships heading into tomorrow’s final day. The situation in the FPO division is especially exciting for the home crowd, as three Finnish players will compete in the lead card for the world title.
On Saturday in Nokia, it looked for a long time like Lehtomäki would head into the final round with a commanding lead. She began the day tied with Ohn Scoggins, but while Scoggins struggled, Lehtomäki seemed to succeed at pretty much everything. At one point, she was ahead by as many as 12 strokes.
However, the challenging 16th hole changed everything: Lehtomäki missed the island green several times and carded a +8 on the hole. Meanwhile, Henna Blomroos threw a spectacular eagle on the same hole, cutting the gap by ten strokes.
Lehtomäki (-9) will start the final round with a one-stroke lead over Blomroos (-8). Ohn Scoggins (-5) is in third, and the final spot on the lead card goes to the reigning world champion Eveliina Salonen (-3), who has steadily climbed the leaderboard after a tough opening round.
The Disc Golf World Championships will conclude tomorrow in Nokia. Spectators are welcome to attend the event free of charge.
