Welcome to Worlds
The PDGA Pro Worlds is a dream turning into reality: The Worlds in Finland will be epic.
“Bringing the PDGA World Championships to Finland has been my goal for over a decade.”
Jussi Meresmaa, Event Director
The history of the World Championships began in 2005 when Tampere hosted the European Championships in Epilä and Nokia. The following year, in 2006, the first European Open was organized in Tampere. This inaugural European Open, and the first PDGA major in Europe, featured the world’s best players, including Ken Climo, David Feldberg, Valarie Jenkins, and others, marking their first visit to European soil.
Since then, the European Open has continued to grow, initially in Epilä. In 2011, the event moved to Nokia. Over the last decade, Nokia DiscGolfPark, also known as “The Beast,” has become one of the most iconic venues in the disc golf world.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, disc golf took another step forward in Finland, showcasing its evolution from a casual hobby to one of the country’s most popular sports.
The PDGA Professional World Championships will be the pinnacle of twenty years of development in Tampere and throughout Finland.
“Having the Worlds in Finland is superb. The event will be huge.”
Eveliina Salonen, 3-time DGPT event winner
Over 200 professional disc golfers from around the world will compete in a five-day tournament in Tampere and Nokia. On the 3rd of August, the disc golf world will see its first-ever world champion crowned in Europe.
“It’s an honor to play Worlds in Finland.”
Väinö Mäkelä, Finnish Champion
