Buhr takes the lead, Barela breaks course record

World number one player Gannon Buhr surged into the lead on Saturday at the Disc Golf World Championships in Nokia. Buhr delivered a strong round, finishing with an incredible streak of seven consecutive birdies on the final seven holes. With a score of -34, Buhr leads the tournament by two strokes heading into the final day.

Rising to second place was Anthony Barela, who threw a stunning course record at “the Beast”. Barela had an unbelievable start to his round — after 14 holes, he was sitting at 14 under par. He kept up the pace through the end and finished with a score of -15, beating Ricky Wysocki’s old course record by two strokes.

Heading into the final round, six players are realistically in contention for the world title. Behind Buhr and Barela, it’s a tight race: Sullivan Tipton (-31) and Ezra Aderhold (-31) will join them on the lead card tomorrow, while Aaron Gossage (-29) and Niklas Anttila (-29) on the chase card still have a real shot at the title.

While it’s mathematically possible for someone from further down the leaderboard to take the win, the world champion is most likely to emerge from this top six. None of them have won a world championship before.

A new world champion will be crowned tomorrow in Nokia. Entry to the event is free for all spectators, and a historically large crowd is expected to attend.

All Saturday scores are available on PDGA Live.
