Gannon Buhr has won the MPO World Championship in Nokia. Buhr entered the final round in the lead and managed to hold onto his position throughout the round. This world title is the first of his career.
Ranked number one in the world, Buhr (-43) came into the World Championships as perhaps the biggest favorite. He stayed near the top from the opening day and held his nerve under pressure — during the last two rounds, he didn’t miss a single putt from Circle 1.
Victory didn’t come easy, though. In the chase card on Sunday, both Aaron Gossage and Niklas Anttila were playing at a high level. Anttila, who shot twelve under par on Sunday, climbed to within one stroke of the lead at one point, but a bogey on the final hole ended his chances of winning. Gossage went even lower, finishing the round at -13. It still wasn’t quite enough: Gossage (-42) lost to Buhr by one stroke and takes home the silver medal. Anttila (-41) claimed the bronze in front of the home crowd.
Also finishing in the top six at the World Championships were Ezra Aderhold (-37), Sullivan Tipton (-36) and Anthony Barela (-36).
On the final day, a huge crowd gathered in Nokia, and the spectators cheered loudly for the players all the way to the end.
